There are plenty of reasons why UK companies should think seriously about doing business in Colombia:

  • Colombia has the third largest population in Latin America with a strong and flexible workforce;

  • Colombia is enjoying strong, sustainable economic growth;

  • Colombia has been highlighted by the World Bank as a 'top reformer' in five of the last eight years;

  • Colombia is the top country in Latin America (and sixth in the world) for investor protection according to the World Bank. Colombia's Credit Rating has been raised to Investment Grade by Moody's and Standard and Poor's;

  • Colombia is one of the most open markets in Latin America and enjoys eleven Free Trade Agreements. The EU-Colombia Free Trade Agreement with the EU is now in place; and

  • A developing location as a regional hub (six hours flight to all other Latin American capitals), with duty-free access to the other Andean nations, Mercosur and Chile.

The Colombian government is also launching ambitious investment programmes and is seeking UK commercial expertise:

  • $100 billion in investment in infrastructure over the next eight years;

  • $85 billion in oil and gas over the next five years;

  • $40 billion in defence and security over the next five years; and

  • $500 million per annum in science and innovation.

My team and I look forward to helping you to do business in Colombia. We will provide you the latest market intelligence. We will sign post you to the correct contacts, help you make the necessary linkages and we will act as a guiding hand to help you to do business in Colombia.

We look forward to seeing you in Colombia.
